PROJECT CASE STUDY
Hoffler Creek
Natrx worked with the James River Association to design a living shoreline solution for a property facing severe damage and erosion due to heavy storms in the area. The wave energy at this site was higher than most living shoreline solutions could withstand but Natrx ExoForms™ were utilized to effectively stabilize the site and maintain a natural aesthetic appearance.
Where: Suffolk, Virginia
When: November 2023
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Client: James River Association
Project: High Wave Energy Living Shoreline
Application: Shoreline Maintenance, Residential Infrastructure
PROJECT GOALS
Provide stable living shoreline solution suitable for higher wave energy environment
Minimize erosion of surrounding wetland/marsh and protect site from further heavy storm damage
Maintain natural aesthetic of residential site in addition to stabilizing shoreline
Project Site Before
PROJECT OUTCOMES
Designed ExoForms™ specifically to meet demands of a high wave energy site and delivered 90 structures (270ft of shoreline) to stabilize eroding shoreline
Modular ExoForm™ structures installed faster and more efficiently compared to traditional rock solutions (completed within 1 day)
Constructed living shoreline solution with consideration of limitations including restricted location access and minimal equipment space
Provided living shoreline solution with smaller physical footprint than rock solutions capable of securing placement of sand in high wave energy environments
Project Site After
Our process is designed to deliver high-performance resilience solutions in a wide range of habitats and locations. Each solution is custom and starts with a few simple questions. Get in touch and let's find the right solution to your challenge.
